Tempe Photo Enforcement Program
The Tempe photo enforcement program became operational on May 7, 2025. The city installed cameras at 14 intersections plus 4 mobile camera units to improve roadway safety and encourage responsible driving.
Photo enforcement fines are $252 as of September 2025. Cameras capture red light and speed violations. Photos are mailed to vehicle owners showing the violation, date, time, and location.
If you receive a photo ticket notice in the mail, Arizona law says you do not have to respond unless formally served in person. However, if you are served, you must respond or face default judgment. Contact the court if you have questions about your specific notice.
Paying Tempe Traffic Tickets
Tempe Municipal Court accepts online payments. You can pay through the Tempe Court payment page or through Paymentus. The system accepts credit and debit cards.
Paying your ticket means you admit responsibility. Points go on your driving record. You cannot attend defensive driving school after paying. Contact the court before paying if you want to fight the ticket or take traffic school.
Defensive Driving School Option
Arizona law allows most drivers to take a defensive driving class to dismiss traffic tickets. You must request this option before paying or appearing in court. Contact Tempe Municipal Court to see if your ticket qualifies. The court will set a deadline for completing the course and submitting your certificate.
You cannot use traffic school if you completed one for another violation in the past 12 months. CDL holders cannot use this option for tickets received while driving commercial vehicles. Completing the class keeps points off your record and prevents insurance increases. Classes are available online or in person.
